Russia to reveal banned foodstuffs list on Thursday
Russia' Federal Veterinary and Sanitary Inspectorate does not comment on the president’s edict until the government issues a relevant resolution.
The list will be big, assistant to the head of Russian Agricultural Inspectorate Aleksei Alekseyenko said on Wednesday. Fruit and vegetables from the European Union will be banned completely. Russia will also forbid the import of agricultural products including chicken from the USA, he said.
However, it was the official’s personal opinion, the inspectorate claimed. The list of forbidden imported goods will be published on Thursday afternoon, BBC reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced special economic measures ‘to protect the country’s national interests’ on Wednesday. His decree imposes a ban on the import of agricultural products, raw materials and food from the countries that introduced sanctions against Russia in connection with the events in Ukraine.
The ban will be in force for a year.
