Delivering his State of the Nation address in the Belarusian parliament on 24 April, President Aliaksandr Lukashenka touched upon the problem of poaching and corruption in the environment protection agencies.
"Freshly caught fish were loaded into trucks and delivered to various places in Minsk. The agents have provided me with the list of receipients,” Lukashenka noted.
As a possible solution to this problem, he recalled his first years in office in the 1990s. “Should I take harsh measures like in the first years of my presidency when people were getting murdered on the Moscow-Berlin highway? I would dispatch a group of reliable people with automatic rifles who shot half of them [bandits]."
