Lyabedzka expects legal guarantees from PACE
Andrea
Rigoni, special rapporteur of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly
(PACE) visited Minsk on Monday to explain his position and the position of the
PACE Political Committee on the restoration of the special guest status to the
Belarusian legislature, Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civic Party,
told ERB. He said
that the PACE Bureau should issue a legal document specifying powers of the delegations
of the Belarusian National Assembly and the Belarusian opposition.
On June 23,
PACE is expected to restore the country's special guest status. Opposition
leaders condemned the planned move as a setback for democratization.
