Makei: EAEU agreement is not fully in line with goals declared earlier
Belarus and Russian Foreign Ministers make a joint statement after meeting on June 16 in Minsk.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on June 16 in Minsk that the Eurasian Economic Union founding Treaty, signed on May 29 in Moscow, "does not fully correspond with the goals that were declared earlier."
Belarus acts on the premise that the EAEU agreement is ‘a gradual step towards the integration processes on the post-Soviet territory’, Makei said.
"On the other hand, every participant of the process may be dissatisfied with the current final result. We think that the agreement does not fully correspond to the goals declared earlier,” the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs added.
However, the signing of the agreement was a very positive step, he said.
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov claimed: “A bilateral agreement is always a complex of compromises. This is not the end of life.”
