Mass media: Belarus gives $2m for Depardieu film
Alyaksandr Lukashenka has allocated 2 million dollars for the film Normandie-Niemen that will star French actor Gérard Depardieu. However, he will not play the main part there, he will play a mechanic, the Russian newspaper Izvestiya reports. The decision to make the film was made when Depardieu visited Belarus in July. The actor met with Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the President taught him to mow.
Normandie-Niemen was a fighter squadron of the French Air Force. It consisted of volunteers who fought against Nazis at the Eastern front. “Lukashenka... called for the Minister of Finance and ordered to allocate the money. The work has already begun and Gérard’s producer Arnaud Frilley is solving origination issues now,” Izvestiya quotes director-general of the Russian Film Fund Nikolai Borodachyov representing Russia in this project.
