Minsk bids farewell to people's poet Nil Hilevich - in pictures
In Minsk, people said goodbye to the national poet Nil Hilevich. Thousands of people came on Friday to the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, where the funeral was held. There were also representatives of the authorities - Information Minister Liliya Ananich and Culture Minister Barys Svyatlou. There also came former heads of state - Stanislau Shushkevich and Mechyslau Hryb.
Nil Hilevich died on March 29 at 84. He was buried at Kalvaryia cemetery near the grave of his wife. Hilevich was the last living "people's poet" of Belarus.
