Monument to Usyaslau the Enchanter to appear in Polatsk this year

An equestrian monument to Usyaslau the Enchanter will appear in Polatsk this year. Our Polatsk reporter comes up with more details.

“Polatsk dwellers have already collected 120 million BRB for the monument to this legendary Polatsk Prince. It is already known what the statue is going to be like.

The monument to Usyaslau the Enchanter will be a second equestrian monument in Belarus. The first one is the monument to Usyaslau’s son in Barysau. The Polatsk prince will be created with a stretched arm, he will be holding a falcon and there will be a wolfskin on his back. A group of Minsk sculptors headed by Alyaksadr Proharau are working on the monument.

It has not been decided where exactly the monument will be installed. It may be placed near Sofia Cathedral built during his rule, or at the square next to the railway terminal, or at the bank situated in the place where the Down Castle used to stand. There were some other variants too.

The special commission responsible for the installation of the monument has decided to ask the inhabitants about it. Anyone can present their ideas about a suitable place for the monument till May 15”.
