Nadezhda Savchenko answers to Svetlana Alexievich

Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko imprisoned in Russia has written a reply to Svetlana Alexievich.

The Nobel Prize laureate called the Ukrainian pilot’s arrest abduction and demanded to release Savchenko in one of her interviews. “When signing the letter, I recalled a picture of Putin sitting on a horse. He seemed so strong and powerful. How can a man wage war on a woman? On such a strong and interesting woman,” Alexievich claimed.

Here are some passages of the Ukrainian pilot’s letter. Savchenko thanked the writer for her attitude to herself and Ukraine, Radio Liberty reports.

"Thank you very much for the passage from Svetlana Alexievich’s interview. She is a great Belarusian writer. Russia has called her a Soviet writer and Poroshenko has called her a Ukrainian but she is the daughter of the great Belarusian people! She deserves the right to glorify her Motherland and nation in the world! I am very happy about her success and respect her work. We have never met and I haven’t read any of her books yet. But I have already ordered them to prison,” Savchenko wrote.

Commenting on Alexievich’s statements about Putin, the Ukrainian pilot said that she would not ask ‘bastards for mercy’. Putin has already lost because she is a woman and he is a man, she believes.

Nadezhda Savchenko is accused of killing Russian journalists in the summer of 2014, threatening the lives of refugees and illegal crossing of the Russian border. Savchenko pleads not guilty. She was brought to Russia by the special services against her will, she said.
