National Bank withdraws Br50 banknotes
The 50-Belarusian-ruble banknote will no longer be in circulation effective from January 1, 2015.
The National Bank of Belarus's September 5, 2014 Resolution No 560 says it is no longer reasonable to keep the smallest denomination. It also aims to save the public funds allocated for the production of paper banknotes, reports BELTA.
The Br50 banknote will remain a legal tender till July 1, 2015 and will be used for cash payments.
Effective from July 1, 2015, banks will accept the banknote only till September 1, 2015 and will stop issuing it into circulation.
It will be possible to exchange he Br50 banknotes into the amounts divisible by 100 rubles without limitations. From July 1 through December 21, 2015, the exchange will be possible at the National Bank and commercial banks; from January 1 through June 31, 2016 - at the National Bank only.
From July 1, 2016, the Br50 banknote stop being a legal tender in Belarus.
