Northern lights in Belarus (photo)
A heavy magnetic storm has brought northern lights to the north of Minsk Province.
“We have seen it! The north of Minsk Province was purple!” people started writing in social networks after 9 p.m. yesterday.
Reports about northern lights were also coming from Russia, Latvia and other regions close to Belarus.
The unusual natural phenomenon appeared in Belarus due to a heavy magnetic storm registered on the Sun. Northern lights or aurora borealis are a natural light display in the sky caused by charged particles entering the atmosphere from above and causing ionization. It is typical for the polar regions but can be rarely seen in other areas.
