Poet Nyaklyayeu comments on his political career (photo, audio)
Ex-presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu explains his life in politics at a poetry reading event at the Belarusian House in Warsaw.
The poet presented his new book Punctuation Marks and explained why he had decided to become a politician.
Nyaklyayeu: “I would have never become a politician but for the situation. The department of Belarusian philology has been liquidated in Białystok. The same happened in Lublin earlier. These are the consequences of the policy conducted by the Belarusian government as regards the Belarusian culture and language. My book is out. But who will read it? A group of Belarusians in Białystok and emigrants in Warsaw?”
Well-known Belarusian-Czech translator Ceslav Senuh, head of the Polish PEN-centre and translator Adam Pomorski and literary woman Valyaryna Kustava attended the happening.
