Registration refused for Nyaklyayeu’s new movement

Рух Някляева "За дзяржаўнасць і незалежнасць!" не зарэгістравалі

The Ministry of Justice has refused to register the public association For Statehood and Independence, one of the founders the organization, ex-presidential candidate-2010 Uladzimir Nyaklyeyeu told BelaPAN.

The reasons for the refusal were formal, Nyaklyayeu said. According to the statute of the constituent assembly, the organization was called For Statehood and Independence. However, it was called Civil Association For Statehood and Independence on the list of founders.

"The Ministry of Justice pretended to not understand that it was the same organization and announced that the list of founders was invalid,” the politician said. Officials understood everything and did not register the organization for other reasons, the politician believes.

"We all know who registers and refuses to register organizations in Belarus. That person also imprisons or releases people, be they Nyaklyayeu or Chyzh,” Nyaklyayeu added.

The other founders of the organization were the first leader of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich, Nobel Prize laureate Svetlana Alexievich, ex-presidential candidate and ex-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, trade unions leader Henadz Fyadynich, politician and literary man Lyavon Barshcheuski and other cultural, political and civil figures.

It is senseless to organize another constituent assembly because the association is not going to be registered in Belarus, Nyaklyeu thinks. He is planning to register For Statehood and Independence as an international association.
