Obama, EU leaders agree on new Russia sanctions
Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for the U.S. President, says the leaders have agreed fresh sanctions against Russia.
The U.S. President met the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Ukraine, he reminded.
Obama and his European colleagues ‘expressed solidarity with Ukraine and promised to support democracy in this country’. They condemned the fact that Russia had violated Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and agreed that it was necessary to impose new sanctions on Moscow. They supported Petro Poroshenko’s efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement of the conflict, RIA Novosti reports.
