Obama: USA considers arms supplies to Ukraine
The U.S. President said it during a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The USA and Germany think that the current Russia sanctions should remain in force, the American leader claimed at a press conference after his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Obama believes that it will make Russia understand that the international isolation will be increased unless it changes its current course, BBC reports.
The international community still supports a diplomatic way out of the problem, the U.S. President said. However, the United States is studying the possibility of defensive arms supplies to Ukraine if diplomatic attempts to settle the conflict bring no result.
Russia has violated almost all the provisions of the treaties signed in Minsk, Obama said. Angela Merkel characterized the events in the region as ‘a Russia-Ukraine conflict’.
Russia keeps sending tanks, APCs and heavy artillery to East Ukraine and separatists supported by Moscow are seizing new territories while thousands of Ukrainians are forced to leave their houses.
