ONT decides on singers for “Eurovision 2010”

Belarus will send either a girls’ band or a male soloist to Norway. No names have been announced yet. However, neither Ruslana nor Maria Sharyfavich would be able to represent Belarus at “Eurovision 2010”. The ONT channel will chose the best song for the contest that will take place in Oslo in 2010. The song should be meant either for a girls’ band of six or for a male soloist.

The ONT press secretary Alіna Pravatorava has explained to an ERB reporter that they do not have a list of possible candidates and that 6 people is not a tenet:

Alіna Pravatorava: “Frankly speaking, we do not have any candidates. There is a conceptual image. It should be either a girls’ band or a man. We have mentioned 6 people because there cannot be more than 6 performers according to the rules of “Eurovision”. There may be fewer”.

ONT is still not a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) but is has received its verbal agreement to deal with “Eurovision” in Belarus.

Alіna Pravatorava: “We have been told that our documents will be considered in December and that the response will be positive. That is, we have a verbal agreement although the channel is not a member of the EBU”.

It is possible to organize a selection tour for “Eurovision” without being a member of the EBU. Applications from authors will be accepted until October 1. The author of the winning song will get $50.000!

ONT is not going to create a special team for “Eurovision”. The board of special projects headed by Darya Zakirava will organize the selection of a song for “Eurovision 2010”. She will also be responsible for the preparation of the Belarusian participant of “Eurovision 2010”.
