Opposition activist Tolchyn arrested for five days
Andrei Tolchyn, the chairman of the United Civic Party branch in Homel, was today arrested for five days, according to a ruling of a district court.
Uladzimir Katsora, the leader of the local coalition of the United Pro-Democracy Forces (UDF), told Belapan news agency that opposition activists were disseminating bulletins with the information on the 23rd Chernobyl accident anniversary on April 23 in the town of Naroulia. The leaflets said that on April 25 representatives of the UDF planned to lay flowers to the monument of the resettled villages in Naroulia.
Tolchyn was detained by police officers and charged with the violation of order when holding a public event. The activist spent a night in a detention facility.
