Parting with Mihail Marynich in Minsk
Over a hundred people came to bid farewell to the well-known statesman and politician who died at the age of 74 on October 17.
Ex-presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin, head of the initiative Tell the Truth Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu, editor-in-chief of Narodnaya Volya Yazep Syaredzich, some diplomats and former statesmen came to part with Marynich in Minsk on October 19.
Mihail Marynich was buried in Minsk Eastern Cemetery in Minsk after the ceremony.
Mihail Marynich was born in Homel Province on January 13, 1940. He graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute, Foreign Languages Institute and Minsk Higher Party School. He was a Master of Economics.
He was the Mayor of Minsk, a member of the Supreme Council of the 12th convocation and the Belarusian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Latvia, Estonia and Finland, BelaPAN reports.
Having resigned from the government service, he headed a new civil organization – Belarusian Association Business Initiative. He participated in the presidential election campaign in 2011 but did not manage to collect enough signatures to become a candidate.
Marynich was arrested and imprisoned for 5 years in 2004. He was returned guilty of the misappropriation of office equipment that had been given to him by the U.S. Embassy for temporary use. He was released in 2005 after a strike and eye infection.
