Party leaders say Milinkevich could be useful in regions
The chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka today met in Minsk with Alexander Milinkevich, the former presidential contender and currently the leader of For Freedom movement. The meeting took place at the initiative of Mr Lyabedzka who said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus as follows:
"This is the proposal of four co-chairmen of the United Pro-Democracy Forces so that we develop a joint strategy of interaction and work in the regions.
After developing those approaches, we could together tour the regions, especially where there are certain problems with communication and interaction between the regional structures of our organizations".
"The problem is," Lyabedzka says "that ordinary members in the grassroot organizations are confused about "configurations of coalitions". Joint actions and coordination could improve the situation, he maintains.
Alexander Milinkevich said in respond:
“They think that if I went together with them to those regions where there is no tight cooperation between the parties, I could be useful for them”.
According to Milinkevich, “the coalition of parties does not work”, so the United Pro-Democracy Forces hope that For Freedom movement could help them.
However, Alexander Milinkevich reminds: “We are a civil movement. They are a coalition of parties. Therefore, we will not be able to cooperate on all the issues."
