People coming under U.S. State Department’s sanctions to be named
The movement “For Freedom” has decided to create a list of people coming under the visa sanctions introduced by the US State Department on August 7. According to the deputy head of the movement Yuras Hubarevich, the purpose of this initiative is to name people responsible for political repressions in Belarus:
“We are planning to make use of the help of the movement’s activists throughout Belarus, especially in regional centres where the majority of people on the visa ban list can be found: representatives of the so-called ecological elite, police members and KGB officers whose rank if higher than that of a colonel. We are going to collect the surnames of these people”.
The State Department and the American Embassy are unaware of the intention of the movement “For Freedom” to personify the people on the US visa ban list. Yuras Hubarevcih does not think it is necessary:
“We are not doing it because of America’s request. We just think that people have the right to know not only the posts but also the names of those guilty of repressions against democratically oriented people in Belarus”.
