Polish PM says no threat for Belsat TV
Polish PM Beata Szydło has promised not to close Belsat, its director Agnieszka Romaszewska wrote on Facebook:
"I think that you will be happy to learn the news like I was. The Prime Minister has promised that Belsat will not be closed. We will discuss our further cooperation with the MFA within a month.”
Belsat was facing closure at the end of 2016. The Polish MFA decided to significantly reduce the financing of the Belarusian-language TV channel. A civil campaign was started to protect Belsat. Nobel Prize laureate Svetlana Alexievich and the first leader of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich sent letters in its support to Warsaw.
