They have met before the official dinner given by French President François Hollande.
The dinner was dated for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day. The Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin there. “They have discussed the possible ways of settling the crisis and the possibility of Moscow’s recognition of Poroshenko’s election. The details of the [ceasefire] agreement will be discussed within the next few days,” the French President’s official representative said.
Poroshenko and Putin discussed the economic consequences of the Russia-Ukraine confrontation. The two Presidents shook hands, UNIAN reports.
The recognition of the election in Ukraine and negotiations between Putin and Poroshenko were among the terms set by British PM David Cameron and U.S. President Barack Obama the day before. Otherwise, economic sanctions could be imposed on Russia.
