President of Eurogroup: Greece referendum results are ‘very sad’

The results of the Greek referendum are ‘very sad’ for the country’s future, President of the Eurogroup and Dutch Minister of Finance Jeroen Dijsselbloem said. Athens needs ‘complicated reforms and difficult decisions to restore the country’s economy, he reminded. “We are going to wait for the Greek authorities’ initiatives,” BBC quotes Dijsselbloem.
Greece will need humanitarian rather than financial assistance soon, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz believes (see the video).
Greeks had to decide whether the country should accept the agreement with international creditors in order to overcome the debt crisis on July 5. Creditors are trying to make the Greek authorities increase taxes and lower the social benefits. The economy can help Greece fulfil its financial commitments.
However, more than 61% of people voted contra and only 38% voted pro.
19 Eurozone Ministers of Finance are going to discuss the situation in Greece at a special summit on July 7.
