Price growth banned
The government in Belarus has set the price growth limit of not more than 0.5 percent per month in 2007. The inflation rate is thus not to exceed 6 percent per year.
Industries can exceed the limt only if they happen to be in the red.
The price limitations do not target the goods and services of the commercial organizations with foreign investments (apart from the paid medical services), diamonds and and jewelry.
The price tag for communal services has also been limited to not more than $5 per year for a family of three, living in a two-bedroom apartment.
On January 1, 2007, the tariffs for gas and electricity for the population has increased at 20 percent. Heating has become more expensive at 12 percent.
