I have found a detailed description of the procedure in the law: regional councils select 8 people, 8 more candidates are proposed by the capital and by the state leader. The vote is secret for some reason.
The election is usually calm and there are no surprises or alternatives. For example, CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik has not managed to recall any competition.
As Euroradio has found out, senators do not get paid for their work in the Council of the Republic - they vote for free. Only the head and his deputies get paid. We will learn the new senators' names from state newspapers.
