Foreign educational programs for Belarusians terminated
Several programs which gave Belarusians an opportunity to study abroad will be closed.
According
to the information provided by generation.by, the popular American
program Muskie was cut off. The program "Open Europe",
which was funded by the European Commission and allowed Belarusian students to choose
any university in Europe to continue their
education is also in danger.
The first program was terminated because
the U.S. government could not agree
on the budget for the next year. About
5000 people from the
CIS countries participated in the Muskie program during more than 20 years of
its existence.
The "Open Europe" (OESS) program focused exclusively on the Belarusians. However, the European Commission will formally approve the program not earlier than March 2013.
Therefore, it is likely to be set for the years
2014-15.
Last year, the scholarship program
"Open Europe" for the first
time allowed Belarusians to study for free at
any university in the EU and associated
countries. There were 179 lucky people.
