A missed laboratory work costs 90 thousand roubles in Barysau Polytechnic College. The payment depends on the teacher's academic degree.

“It is not indicated anywhere whether students should pay for missed classes. Such decisions are made by the director of the college," Barysau College told Euroradio.

A missed class can cost you 30 thousands and more! It is enough to buy a dinner in the students' canteen.

A missed laboratory work costs 80 thousand roubles for 2 hours in Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. Retaking an exam with a professor or a Doctor of Philosophy costs 21 thousand roubles.

“Our students are charged for missed laboratory works. It is done according to the rector's order," explained BSUIR.

A state exam costs most of all - 495 thousands! A scholarship may not be enough to cover the expenses.

A passage from the rector' order

BSUIR student Dzimtry has to pay a quarter of his scholarship for a missed laboratory work. He has not settled the matter with the teacher...

“It was in my second year. I payed about 50 thousands. The scholarship was about 200 thousands back then. It depends on the teacher. You can settle the matter with some of them... There are 2 people in our group and about 5 students have to pay every semester," Dzmitry said.

Volya, a student of Vitsebsk Sate Medical University, has paid 11 thousand for a missed class and 10 thousands for a missed laboratory work.

“I missed  my English class once and had to pay 11 thousands. I failed to pass the physics laboratory work and had to pay 10 thousands to be able to resit," the girl said.

Volya pays 16 million roubles a year  for her education. Why does she have to pay twice? We have asked the Ministry of Education about it...

“There is a document allowing universities to render paid services such as retaking exams and compensating for missed classes. But the sums are indicated by universities. The students who pay for their education should better pass their exams at once. But some people are too lazy to study until they are made  to pay."

BSU students are not charged for missed classes and failed exams now. However, the university is considering the possibility of such services.

“There is such an idea. The rector can sign the corresponding order. On the one hand, it is profitable. But there are some downsides - teachers are different and some of them may want to lower students' grades on purpose," the university told Euroradio.
