White Cane Safety Day marked on October 15

The society has a reason to express solidarity with people who are blind or visually impaired on October 15 each year. The history of the white cane as a symbol of a blind person starts back in 1921. A young British photographer James Biggs lost his eyesight in the accident and had to move around the city with the help of a cane. However, no one paid attention to his black cane. Then he painted it white and it became noticeable.

There are more than 19 thousands of sight-disabled people in Belarus today.
