Russia eyes Belarus to move military production from Ukraine
Russia's envoy in Minsk Alexander Surikov says Russia needs to find new manufacturers of military equipment due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Russia is now forced to search for new options to manufacture thousands of items of parts and fittings due to the conflict in Ukraine. The Belarusian military industry committee has already received corresponding offers, says Surikov.
"We do not rule out that aircraft overhaul plants in Baranavichy and Orsha will have increased production output due to this complication [with Ukraine]," Russian ambassador is quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.
The Russian military industrial enterprises worked in close cooperation with the Ukrainian weapons manufacturers. They produced, in particular, helicopter engines and turbo-power units for the ships. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko banned any cooperation with Russia in the military and technical field in mid June.
