Russian strategic bombers over Europe
Several European countries prepared their fighters for interception.
A group of Russian warplanes were noticed on October 28 and 29, NATO claims. They were participating in major military training in the European air space over the Baltic, Black and North Seas and the Atlantic Ocean.
"NATO radars noticed a group of eight Russian planes over the North Sea at about 3 a.m.,” the Alliance reported.
Norwegian fighters F-16 were alerted. Their pilots identified the Russian planes – four strategic bombers Tu-95 and four tanker aircrafts Il-78.
The group of planes had left Russia and crossed the Norwegian Sea in the international air space, NATO reported.
Then six planes headed for Russia and two planes continued flying along the Norwegian coast. British and Portuguese fighters were alerted for their interception, BBC reports.
