Ryhor Baradulin dies
The People's poet of Belarus dies at the age of 79.
Ryhor Baradulin was born into Ivan and Akulina Baradulins’ family in Verasouka homestead, Vitsebsk Province. He went to school in Ushachy and graduated from the BSU language and literature department. He was the editor in such publishing houses as Belarus and Mastatskaya Litaratura, the newspaper Soviet Belarus and the magazines Byarozka and Polymya.
Ryhor Baradulin was the last person to become a People’s Poet in 1992. His other awards were the Yanka Kupala Prize, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, Order of the Badge of Honour, the Latvian Order of the Three Stars and Francysk Skaryna medal. Ryhor Baradulin was an honorary BSU doctor and Ushachy District honorary citizen.
