Students to collect money to pay fine for protest
Student protest participant Pavel Siarhei was sentenced to a Br4.5 million fine 'for taking part in an authorized mass event. Money to pay the fne will be collected among students, one of the protest organizers Yauhen Amlialkou told Euroradio.
Amialkou: “He should not feel abandoned and that nobody will help him. We will defntely donate money and will encourage others to do so. Probably, we will also turn to youth organizayions or just students. In other words, we will be collectng money to help him out and pay the fine."
The fine for Pavel Sarhei has not discouraged students from continuing to defend their rights. Accordng to Yauhen Amialkou, they are now drafting a complaint to the prosecutor's office againt the adminstration of Belarus State University, which recently introduced a fee for re-examnations. They plan to file the complaint on December 25.
The student protest took place on December 2. BSU students protested against the re-examination fees. Some of the protesters were charged with 'taking part in an unauthorized mass event.'
