Two Belarusian-language grades may appear in Mahilou schools
Two Belarusian classes may be created in Mahilyou schools #1 and #34, representatives of the local authorities said at a round-table discussion on May 26.
The popularization of the Belarusian language education was the topic of the discussion. It was organized at school #1 with the help of the Belarusian Language Society. Yalinka Salauyova is the only Mahilyou pupil studying in Belarusian. She studies at school #1.
There is everything needed to provide good education in Belarusian in Mahilyou, deputy head of the city education department Tatstsyana Kandratsiyeva said. The level of education in Belarusian is ‘high’, she added. Some schools offer advanced lessons of Belarusian.
The law allows creating Belarusian classes to realize citizens’ rights, headmaster of school #34 Ihar Yakimenka said. Belarusian groups may be created even in Russian classes. In this case, pupils from the Belarusian group will study some of the subjects in Belarusian, BelaPAN reports.
