Ukraine to repeat Belarus scenario after Russian loan?
In his view, under the premiership of Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine like Belarus could lose control over its petrochemical transit system and a number of strategic enterprises due the credit pressure from Russia. He reminded that Russia had initially raised the gas costs for Belarus sharply and when the country faced budget and economic problems, Moscow proposed to exchange its cheap gas for the Belarusian pipelines.
Russia can operate according to the same scenario in Ukraine as well.
The Ukrainian official stressed that even some elements of the secret negotiations that became known to the public thanks to the free press should put the society on alert. For example, in exchange for loans, Russia demands that Ukraine ratify a zero-variant deal and also presses for Ukraine to recognize part of the Soviet Union's debt and among other issues to extend the stay of Russia's Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine.
Kislinski does not rule out that Russia also eys key strategic companies like Ukrtelecom, Energoatom, a shipyard in Odessa and Prominvestbank.
