Ukrainian fighters leave Donetsk Airport ruins

Ukraine has decided to stop defending Donetsk Airport. It is in ruins and there are no buildings that could be used by ‘the cyborgs’ (the name given to Ukrainian defenders of the airport).
The defense of Donetsk Airport took 242 days, editor-in-chief of censor.net Yuri Butoisov reported. It started on May 26, 2014 when Ukrainian special troops released the airport from militants. The latter suffered major losses, dozens of Russians including Russian special services officers were killed.
"The new and old terminal and the control tower have been destroyed. The last defenders have left the airport today,” Butusov wrote on Facebook.
He has urged to commemorate the heroes who have been defending the airport from pro-Russia militants in ‘such disadvantageous and difficult conditions’.
Donetsk Airport is the symbol of Ukrainian soldiers’ bravery. Hundreds of fighters fought there – volunteers, members of special troops and paratroopers. They have been repulsing the attacks of militants and whole sub-units of the Russian Army, Ukraine claims. The latter have suffered major losses.
