Ukrainians block border with Poland over visa problems
People in the Lviv region of Ukraine have blocked a crossing point at the border with Poland, protesting against the visa issue procedure after Poland joined the travel-free Schengen agreement, reports Korrespondent.
The introduction of paid visas has disrupted the business of numerous local households that would routinely trade alcohol and cigarettes across the border. Alexander Chaly, the vice chief of Ukrainian president's office, has expressed disappointment that Ukraine and Poland have not signed an agreement on the small-size trans-border movements up to now.
Ukrainians now have to pay Eur35 for a Schengen visa. An agreement on the small-size transborder movement would allow the Ukrainians who live within the 90-km border areaa, to cross the border without a visa. Ukraine looks to sign a similar agreement with Slovakia.
