Ukrainians support Belarusian language in contacts with Belarus
A language petition has appeared on the website of the Ukrainian President. Its authors are asking Ukraine to use the Belarusian language instead of Russian in its contacts with Belarus.
In particular, the authors suggest using Belarusian in trains heading for and from Belarus at Kiev, Chernigov, Lviv and Kovel railway stations, porteuropa.eu reports.
The petition may be signed by Ukrainians, Belarusians and the citizens of other states. The petition can be signed here.
It is necessary to collect 25 thousand signatures in 90 days so that Petro Poroshenko would consider the petition. The petition appeared on September 7, 2015.
Poland actively uses Belarusian in contacts with Belarus, the authors note. Meanwhile, the official website of the Ukrainian Embassy to Belarus is only available in Ukrainian and Russian. The petition also suggests translating the website to Belarusian.
The authors of the petition are also urging Ukrainian businessmen to attach Belarusian stickers to the goods exported to Belarus.
