Tennis: Azarenka defeats Vögele in Mallorca Open thriller
Belarus' Victoria Azarenka defeated Stefanie Vögele of Switzerland on 19 June 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in her grass season kick-off match at the Mallorca Open in Spain. Both rivals were close to winning just as they are are close in the WTA rankings – Azarenka (85), Vögele (93). Azarenka will take on Lucie Šafářová of the Czech Republic on 21 June (53).
Belarusian tennis players Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandra Sasnovich dropped out of the tournament in their first matches.
