18:45 Lithuania objects to Russian gas pipeline on Baltic Sea bottom
Lithuania demands that an alternative route of the Northern European gas pipeline be developped, according to the country's report on the issue. Lithuania points to the possible damage of the project to environment to justify its objection. Under the international agreement, all of the countries concerned with the nothertn pipeline project -- Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland are to submit their reports on this matter.
Lithuania urges to refuse from the idea of building the pipeline on the bottom of the Baltic Sea and to build the line on the ground, noting that it would be a cheaper and more environmentally friendly route.
According the investors' plan, the gas will be supplied from Russia directly to Germany.
