33% of Russians believe that Russia can defeat USA in war
There can be no winner in such a war, most Russians think.
Russian sociologists have found out Russians’ attitude to the USA. 59% of the pollees think that the United States is a threat and only 32% think that it’s not (the numbers were 47% and 42% eight years ago). Every second pollee (48%) thinks that the USA is a restrictive barrier to the development of the Russian state, Levada-Centre reports.
31% of the pollees are afraid of Washington’s possible military aggression (21% in 2007). 33% of Russians think that Russia will win if the war against the USA starts. 5% believe that the USA will win. Every fourth person believes that Russia may use nuclear weapons first. Every second Russian (52%) is sure that there can be no winner in such a war, Izvestiya reports.
