Action in memory of Stalin’s repressions in Kurapaty to take place on May 29
A traditional action of commemoration of victims of political repressions will take place in Kurapaty not far from Minsk tomorrow, on May 29. Such actions have been organzied since January 2007.
The organizers of the action are trying to make the state announce October 29 a Day of commemoration of victims of political repressions. An activist of the Association for protection of monuments Vyachaslau Siuchyk says that the action’s scenario will be traditional:
Sіuchyk: People will lay flowers, light candles and sing songs in Kurapaty at 6 p.m.
By the way, June 3 is the 20th anniversary of Yauhen Shmyhalyou and Zyanon Paznyak’s article “Kurapaty – the road of death”. The article was the first mentioning of the tract that became a burial place for victims of Stalin’s repressions. A memorial action is being prepared for the anniversary in Kurapaty.
