African swine fever reached Mahilyou? (photo)
There hasn’t been any meat for sale in local shops for a week and all roads to the pig farm are blocked.
The roads leading to the village Ushod situated almost on the border of Mahilyou are blocked. Pictures of the roads have appeared on Facebook recently. The roads are either blocked by concrete barriers or there are signs prohibiting passage there.
There has been no pork in the local shop Ushod for a week, sales assistants told Euroradio. They did not explain the reasons for it and said that there were problems with pork supplies. The authorities told local inhabitants that precautions were required.
There are two official niduses of infection in Belarus now – in Iuye and Vitsebsk Districts.
The state will compensate for the losses in order to prevent the distribution of African swine fever in Belarus. People will get 18 thousand 337 roubles for every kilo of meat.
African swine fever is a pig virus. It distributes by means of animal contacts, ticks and transportation. There is no vaccine. Almost all infected animals die of it. Animals suspected of the infection get killed. The fever is nonhazardous for humans.
