Alleged author of satirical novel about Minsk Mayor behind bars
The police in Minsk detained Paval Spiryn on October 1. He was sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest.
Probably, the 30-year-old unemployed man was accused of "hooliganism."
As reported by Belarusian Partisan, Spiryn sent a satirical story about the mayor - Mikalai Ladutska- to 1,500 e-mail addresses of Minsk City Executive Committee employees. Human rights activists do not rule out that the investigators will try to report him for a new charge - "defamation of an official." Currently his family members are being questioned about his story.
Radio Liberty notes that Paval Spiryn is a lawyer by training. He has a common law wife and a 3 year old son.
