Amnesty International announces Yury Rubtsou prisoner of conscience
His sentence is considered to be part of the long term campaign of persecution of civil activists.
The international human rights organization Amnesty International has announced Yury Rubtsou prisoner of conscience. Rubtsou’s sentence is considered to be part of the Belarusian authorities’ long term campaign of persecution of civil activists, the human rights centre Viasna reports.
Amnesty International has started an action aimed at releasing Rubtsou. Human rights defenders are urging the international community to send appeals to Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the Belarusian Prosecutor General noting that Rubtsou is a prisoner of conscience imprisoned for using his right for the freedom of expression. Amnesty International is planning to demand that the Belarusian authorities released the political prisoner without delay. The organization also demands to stop the persecution and intimidation of civil activists.
This is good moral support for Yury Rubtsou imprisoned in colony for two years, ex-political prisoner and human rights defender Ales Bialiatski said.
