Anisim refuses to run for President, Karatkevich doesn’t
The Central Election Committee will start registering initiative groups on Wednesday.
Deputy head of the Belarusian Language Society (TBM) Alena Anisim (in the photo above) has refused to run for President. She announced her decision at a press conference in Minsk.
"I understand that it is impossible to win now. We can regret lost ambitions but we must face the truth,” Anisim said. She claimed the she could run for President last August.
The House of Representatives appointed the presidential election for October 11 yesterday. The Central Election Committee will start registering initiative groups tomorrow.
Politician Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu suggested that all opposition candidates should refuse to run for President and support Mikalai Statkevich. Representative of the coalition People’s Referendum Tatstsyana Karatkevich did not support the idea. She announced the start of her presidential campaign on June 30. Her activists are planning to collect 120 thousand signatures.
