Australia imposes sanctions on 12 Russian and Ukrainian citizens
The state condemns Vladimir Putin’s actions and supports Ukraine.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced that the country has imposed “targeted financial and visa sanctions on the people playing a major part in the Russian threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” UNIAN reports. Bishop condemned the Russian President’s attempts “to annex the Ukrainian territory in Crimea”.
“The unauthorized voting in Crimea on March 16... was organized when Russian troops were effectively controlling the territory, ” the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs noted. Such a referendum “cannot be a legal reason to change the status of Crimea”.
The names on the Australian black list have not been announced yet. The EU and USA imposed similar sanctions earlier.
