Babruiski Kurier newspaper looks out for witnesses of correspondent's beating
The Babruiski Kurier newspaper has published an announcement, looking for the witnesses of the beating of its staff reporter, in connection with the continuation of the so called 'Vaskovich case'. Possibly, that's one of the reasons why the judge has issued no verdict, while the case has been handled by the military prosecutor's office. “I was beaten in presence of many people", says Yauhen Vaskevich. "I was beaten on kidneys and legs. My hands were folded, and I was humiliated in every possible way. Many people saw it with their own eyes. The bruises were confirmed by forensic experts”.
On April 18 Yauhen Vaskevich was beaten by the guards at Babruisk Arena during the U-19 World Cup match between USA and Belarus for raising a banned national white-red-white flag. He was beaten by police Capt. Siarhei Baronin and Staff Sergant Alyaksandr Silkin. He was charged with petty hooliganizm on the same day. Vaskovich was accused of violating the public order and using the banned symbols.
