Belarus confirms travel restrictions at western border
Border controls / Border Control Committee
The State Border Control Committee of Belarus on 29 October issued a statement on the situation at the Belarusian borders with the European Union and Ukraine after news broke that citizens were refused entry into Belarus and no explanations were offered.
"Due to the epidemiological situation in the neighboring countries, the Republic of Belarus has temporarily restricted entry via ground border posts for some categories of physical persons from Latvia, Poland and Ukraine," the press office of the Border Control Committee said.
The measure does not apply to diplomats, international truck drivers, train crews on international connections.
The border post at the Minsk international airport "functions without the above-mentioned restrictions." It means that Belarusians can return home by plane.
It is not clear for how long the restrictions have been introduced.
