Media reports over the weekend suggested the Argentina football legend Diego Maradona was in talks about a coaching job in Belarus. The news was first reported by the Argentinian channel TyC Sports and later reprinted by other media, including the Italian Corriere della Sera. Maradona was linked with two Belarusian clubs, FC Dynamo Brest among them.
The Belarusian Football Federation on Monday refuted the rumors. Commenting for Euroradio, a BFF spokesperson said over the phone:
"This information has nothing to do with reality. There were no talks about the national team."
Dynamo Brest spokesperson Volha Khizhankova refused to comment on the rumors about the talks with Diego Maradona. She said:
"You may ask the Italian newspaper which wrote about it. We are not commenting on the rumors from external sources."
Diego Maradona is reportedly without a job at the moment. Last year, he coached a football club in the United Arab Emirates but failed to take it up to the UAE premier league. In late April, he announced his resignation.
