Belarus marks Victory Day
Belarus traditionally celebrated Victory Day on May 9.
War veterans did not march today to the Victory Square in Minsk. Instead, the memorial rally titled "Belarus Remembers" took place, with residents and representatives of public associations and youth organizations participating.
The rally participants carried the photographs of their relatives who fought during the war as well as the heroes of the Soviet Union born in Belarus and those who liberated Belarus in 1944. Flowers and wreaths were laid to the Victory Monument.
Belarus president Aliaksandr Lukashenka also laid flowers to the Victory Monument and talked to the veterans and foreign diplomats, reports BELTA.
At 8 p.m. the President's Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus will stage a festive concert near the Eternal Fire monument, with Belarusian and guest artistes to perform.
At 10 p.m. there will be festive fireworks (thirty salvos) near the Victory Stella in Minsk. Fireworks will also be fired in all regional centers of the country.
