Belarus is set to increase the crude oil transit tariffs by 23% in light of the environmental situation in the country, according to the letter the Russian state-owned trasnport monopoly Transneft has received reports RBC. Transneft mangement has described these plans as 'quite controversial." The situation will be discussed at the negotiations between the representatives of Belarus and Russian governments.

Transneft President Nikolai Tokarev says that proposals to raise the tariffs constitute a 'usual procedure.' If the Russian company does not agree to this proposal, Belarusians will approach an anti-trust agency and hold the talks.

Belarus plans to raise the tariffs effective from 1 May 2019. The last time the tariffs were raised was in early 2017.
